Fructose can cause heart diseases and diabetes

Specialists from University of California at Davis (USA) have found out a significant increase of cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood of those people who during 2 weeks did not limit their consumption of food rich in fructose, receiving in such a way 25% of their daily norm of calories.

The growth of concentration of these substances is an indicator of the risk of heart diseases development.

In order to prove the harmful action of sugars scientists have decided to study what happens when young people with excess weight and those with normal body weight consume 25% of their calories from fructose-rich food products.

According to the authors of the investigations, there is evidence of the fact that people, who consume sugar, have problems or fall ill with diabetes more often. However, there has been no real grounding before to say that sweets really provoke these diseases.

During the investigation there were examined 48 participants of the full legal age from 18 to 40 years old. Having compared the effect of consuming different types of sugar in food, scientists have drawn to a conclusion that receiving of 25% of daily norm of calories from fructose for two weeks increases significantly blood concentration of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein), triglyceride and apolipoprotein-B (a protein that promotes plaque formation and causes diseases of blood vessels).

It is notable, that in case with glucose no such unfavorable changes were observed.

The obtained results prove that consumption of fructose may provoke cardiac diseases.
