An artificial pancreas will be released in the near future.
An artificial pancreas is a device that controls the level of blood glucose in patients with diabetes mellitus of type one, and then automatically adjusts the level of insulin that gets into the body. This device will be prepared by 2018.
It was claimed in the European Association for Study of Diabetes. Now the developers of the artificial pancreas work out the accuracy of the device, as well as study the problems of cyber security to protect the mechanism against hackers. Today’s medical technologies separately include insulin pump to deliver insulin into the body and blood glucose meter to measure the glucose level in organic fluids.
As developers said, the artificial pancreas will combine these technologies "into one circuit". "Preliminary tests have received positive reports from patients mainly due to the fact that with the artificial pancreas they did not have to monitor their condition all the time - it is done automatically", said the authors of the technology of the University of Cambridge, Dr. Roman Govorka and Hood Thabit.
